This tutorial goal is to show how to use MeshSmooth 1.1 to create a mesh cage and see the result in realtime. It is relatively simple tutorial but showes the power of Max's referencing system. You need MeshSmooth 1.1 to do this tutorial.

Well I lied you really don't need MeshSmooth 1.1 to do this. You can do this with Max's regular referencing system. Thanks to Sandeep Shekar for pointing this out.

This showes how to do it with MeshSmooth 1.0.
1. Create a sphere with 10 segments and call it Cage.
2. Assign it a 2 sided wire material.
3. Apply an Edit Mesh to Cage.
4. Clone the Cage with the REFERENCE option and name it Final.
5. Apply a regular material to Final.
6. Apply an Edit Mesh modifier to Final and pop up the Sub Object mesh.
7. Apply a MeshSmooth 1.0 modifier to Final.
8. Turn on the Shaded View.
9. Select Cage go to the Vertex Subobject and start moving vertices and notice that Final updates at the same time.

This showes how to do it with MeshSmooth 1.1 the only difference is that it should be slightly more efficient since there is one less modifier than the one above.
1. Create a sphere with 10 segments and call it Cage.
2. Assign it a 2 sided wire material.
3. Apply an Edit Mesh to Cage.
4. Clone the Cage with the REFERENCE option and name it Final.
5. Apply a regular material to Final.
6. Apply a MeshSmooth modifier to Final.
7. Turn on the Apply to All Verts check box.
8. Turn on the Shaded View.
9. Select Cage go to the Vertex Subobject and start moving vertices and notice that Final updates at the same time.

Happy modelling.
